Facebook and Instagram update AI content labeling

Meta Revises AI Content Labeling Approach

Meta is introducing changes to how AI-edited content is labeled on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. The 'AI Info' tag will now be located in a top-right menu, replacing the previous placement beneath the user's name.

This update aims to provide a more accurate representation of AI involvement in content creation and editing. Users can access the menu to view AI-related information and understand what modifications may have been made.

We will still display the 'AI info' label for content we detect was generated by an AI tool and share whether the content is labeled because of industry-shared signals or because someone self-disclosed.

  • New labeling system to be implemented next week
  • Changes address criticism of previous 'Made with AI' label
  • Meta utilizes industry-shared signals and self-disclosure for detection
  • Concerns arise about potential increase in user misinformation
